Labyrinth Development Updates
Labyrinth development is progressing on schedule as we move into the busy holiday season. Stay tuned for our December update, where we'll share progress on the Loremaster functionality we're building for Labyrinth as well as Labyrinth Loremaster's new look.
Layouts and design of the Tome of the Mundane & Magical and Creature Compendium are still in progress, and we also have upcoming changes that will be made to the Hero Handbook and Rulebook for the third printing. These edits will include a glossary of terms, more comprehensive descriptions of key gameplay elements, as well as a reference index for each book.
Labyrinth monster artwork for the Creature Compendium and standee set are nearly complete, with only a few designs outstanding. Our standee artists Zach and Hannah have done a great job creating many fearsome foes for you to face in this adventure.
New Pregenerated Characters Included in the Box!
Pericle: Labyrinth is currently under development, and we're thrilled to unveil this exciting news: the introduction of two brand-new, pre-generated heroes! These unique pregens will be included in every Labyrinth box and will also be featured in the Labyrinth standee set.
Meet Radek the Relentless, a tenacious human warrior who thrives on courage and unyielding determination. Radek is the brainchild of Jeff S., a Worldbuilder Kickstarter backer whose vision brings this formidable hero to life. Radek is a martial arts master with an unarmed fighting style. With his unparalleled strength and an iron will to match, Radek is sure to inspire players with his prowess and resilience as they navigate the perilous twists and turns of the Labyrinth.
Joining him is Opus the Learned, a masterful dwarf mage whose unparalleled intellect and arcane mastery set him apart. Opus was crafted by the ever-imaginative Will, also known as The Hungry Gamer, whose passion for storytelling and strategy has shaped this spellbinding hero. With his keen mind and magical abilities, Opus is poised to unlock powerful new possibilities for adventurers daring enough to delve into the depths of the Labyrinth. We would like to thank Worldbuilder Kickstarter backer JB, without whose generosity Opus' creation would not be possible.
Last call for order updates!
The last day to make final updates to your order is Thursday, December 5th. After this date, we will lock your reward selections and charge cards for post-Kickstarter add-on item purchases, pledge upgrades, and pre-orders. October Update: Spooky Tricks & Treasures Await in the Labyrinth!
– Thu, Oct 17, 2024 at 06:03:55 PM
Greetings, brave adventurers!
As October’s mist rolls in and shadows grow long, we’re summoning a spine-tingling update just for you! With Halloween fast approaching, we’re focusing on the spooky monsters of the Labyrinth while adding a dash of darkness and a hint of eerie excitement. Here’s what’s creeping into the game this month.
MONSTROUS SHOWCASE
Our team has been working hard designing a horde of monstrous new enemies to haunt the Labyrinth. Get ready to face off against skittering arachnids, deceptive demons, and screeching banshees. Each one brings a new challenge, with powers drawn from the most chilling corners of the Labyrinth.
DEMONS
Origins: Demons are born from the darkest corners of the world, where suffering and malice run deep. The echoes of these evil deeds linger as dark energy, gradually accumulating until it reaches a critical mass. This energy coalesces into a physical form, creating a Demon. Powers: A Demon's powers are as diverse as their origins. Those created from magical experiments might possess innate magical abilities, while those born from subterfuge and manipulation may excel in illusion, deception, or assassination. Some Demons may even possess a combination of these powers. Forms: Demons vary greatly in appearance, with some resembling humanoid creatures and others taking on more monstrous or animalistic forms. Some Demons may even have multiple physical forms, making them particularly difficult to defeat.
BANSHEES
Wail of the Banshee: The most distinctive feature of a banshee is its piercing, mournful wail which is said to be capable of causing madness in those who hear it. Harbinger of Death: The presence of a banshee is a forewarning of impending death, and their wail is a chilling reminder of mortality. The appearance of a banshee can be seen as a curse, indicating a tragic or untimely death - although some myths state that the color of a banshee's clothing suggests the nature of the death; a banshee in white may herald a peaceful death, while one in black may foretell a violent or untimely demise.
ARACHION
Origin: Arachions are purported to be the result of dark magical rituals conducted by demons, a twisted attempt to combine the strengths of different creatures. The process infuses the dark power of demons. Magical Carapace: The Arachion's carapace is infused with magical energy, granting it additional protection against spells. The Arachion's ability to reflect spells back at their casters is a testament to its dark magical origins. This power makes it a formidable opponent for any spellcaster. Pincer Mandibles: The Arachion's powerful pincer mandibles allow it to grapple and crush its prey, making it a deadly predator.
That’s all for now, brave souls. Stay sharp, keep your wits about you, and be on guard for things that go bump in the night.
Happy adventuring, The Long Dog Games Team

September Updates: Clay Golem, Art & Design, & More
2 months ago
– Thu, Sep 19, 2024 at 11:29:33 AM
FEATURED ELEMENT: CLAY GOLEM One of our goals with Labyrinth was to create a more accessible version of the game for true solo players. Our solution is the clay golem! Clay golems are friendly, powerful beings sculpted from natural materials and given sentience through a spell. Golems act as an ally to adventurers who embark on a Labyrinth run alone. This companion is a more streamlined, pre-built party member that will assist the primary hero on solo runs and enable the hero to take advantage of the team combat mechanics.
Basic golems provide blocking support on the battlefield and have simple attacks, but with Rest, they can be re-molded, healing all damage. Golems advance by earning experience points (XP), but since they are designed to streamline solo play, their leveling process is more straightforward, allowing them to adapt and grow in power without the complexity of full party management - although some players may choose advancements that increase complexity, such as adding the ability to use magic items and learning to cast spells through their golem.
ART & DESIGN - PARCHMENT BACKGROUNDS Did you know that several design elements in the book originate as traditional artwork? While many aspects of Pericle's design are created digitally, the parchment backgrounds featured in Tome of the Mundane & Magical and other volumes are hand-painted using watercolor and acrylic on paper. These artworks are then digitized and seamlessly integrated into the book layouts. In fact, many of the burnt paper effects seen in the rulebooks were crafted using this same technique, blending traditional artistry with modern digital tools.

August Update - Blighted Enemies, Modular Maps, & BackerKit Survey Updates
3 months ago
– Thu, Aug 22, 2024 at 01:29:18 PM
FEATURED ELEMENT: BLIGHTED ENEMIES Deep within the twisted depths of the Labyrinth, far from the light of day, heroes will face enemies like never before. Among these new threats are BLIGHTED creatures—monsters born from failed Labyrinth runs. Adventurers and creatures who fall within the Labyrinth rise again as decayed, withered versions of their former selves. Unlike typical undead, they are not mindless. They retain their intelligence and are driven by a twisted sense of duty to protect the Labyrinth. Over time, they eventually decay further, becoming mere zombies and skeletons.
MODULAR MAPS The Labyrinth is designed as a compact, dynamic Pericle experience, which is why we’ve chosen modular maps. Eric Henson, who also designed the maps for Gathering Darkness, is illustrating Labyrinth's core maps as well as the acrylic obstacle tiles. These tiles allow the maps to change with each encounter, displaying different hazards such as lava, rubble, chasms, and more. Loremaster will instruct players on which map to use for each encounter, as well as where to place obstacle tiles.

– Wed, Jul 24, 2024 at 12:46:08 PM
We are thrilled to announce that we're deep into the development of Pericle: Labyrinth.
ARTWORK & SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT Our talented standee artists, Zach Causey and Hannah Magee, are hard at work bringing the monster standees to life with incredible artwork. Our creative team is crafting captivating lore and meticulously designing stats for each creature. We are also continuing to develop the software for Loremaster in order to enable dungeon crawling capabilities. We are writing traps, dilemmas, and other interesting tidbits and unlocks for the story between combat encounters. Soon, we’ll begin preliminary layouts and design for the Creature Compendium and Tome of the Mundane & Magical!
PLEDGE MANAGER: BACKERKIT SURVEYS Thank you to all of our backers who have completed their surveys in the pledge manager, BackerKit. Once your survey is submitted, you will still be able to edit your mailing address as needed. If you have not yet received your survey, please reach out to us by email at [email protected], or reach out to BackerKit support for assistance.
If you know any friends or family who missed the Kickstarter but still want to preorder Labyrinth, we have opened our preorder store for late pledges through BackerKit as well. https://pericle-labyrinth.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders
EDITS & ERRATA FIXES During this time, we have been working on edits, clarifications, and other errata fixes in the original Gathering Darkness print materials. These edits, as well as future additions, will be reflected in the 3rd printing Hero Handbook and Rulebook and in the copies of Gathering Darkness ordered during the Kickstarter. For those who already own Gathering Darkness, you can access edited (2nd edition) materials in Loremaster under “more” on the main menu. This is an ongoing process and we appreciate player input and errata reporting to assist us in identifying issues.
Stay tuned for more updates and sneak peeks as we continue to build this epic adventure!
